A message from Gregory DeLapp, EAPA CEO, on the loss
of Dodie Gill
As some of you knew, colleague and friend Dodie Gill faced into her terminal medical issues with typical
resolve, energy, and strength. I have been informed through Kathy Young of the Arlington (VA) EAP, that Dodie passed just
a few days ago on Sunday. Dodie had been the founding Director – EAP for the Arlington EAP. Dodie was instrumental
in response on 9/11 (and for years after) at the Pentagon, a solid and consistent contributor to EAPA on local and organizational
levels within EAPA. An excellent and instructional presenter at EAPA conferences with her seasoned insight, straight line
ethical approaches to the work of EA, and resolute pursuit of the notion that we (in EA) can do better.
Admittedly, as president of EAPA in years past, there were times when I’d take an apprehensive
deep breath on seeing Dodie’s name on caller ID or on approach in an EAPA conference hallway … not out of avoidance;
but knowing that whatever Dodie was about to say/tell/ask/insist on, she was very likely
right and I’m the one that’s going to be scrambling to come up with a counter,
if any would work at all. She stood for what was right. And, that’s really something to be known for. Great admiration
I had for Dodie, always.
